Morocco Earthquake Could Be As High As 8% Of The Country’s GDP

Friday, a massive earthquake hit Morocco. The United States Geological Survey analyzed and made a report that says the disastrous earthquake could be as high as 8% of the country’s gross domestic product.

According to the data from the World Bank, the North African country’s 2022 GDP estimate of $134.18 billion, the damage is about $10.7 billion.

The United States Geological Survey released a red alert augury for potential economic losses that Morocco faced. The red ]alert warning is assigned through the Global Earthquakes for Response (Pager) system.

The Virginia-based agency said.

“Extensive damage is probable, and the disaster is likely [to be] widespread. Estimated economic losses are 0% to 2% GDP of Morocco. Past events with this alert level have required a national or international level response”.

The pager is an automated system that evaluates this earthquake and has a huge impact by comparing the population of that area who are revealed to each level of trembling intensity. You can also compare with the models of economic and fatality casualties founded on earthquakes in each region.
