Here’s What you Need To know, Ozempic And Wegovy May Curb Drinking, Smoking, And Other Addictive Behaviors

A flight attendant living in France, Le Biller said her appetite decreased during the weekly injections, but so did her craving for wine. 

Le Biller is one of many patients who have taken diabetes and weight loss medications and also seen an impact on their urges to drink, smoke, use opioids, or indulge in some compulsive behaviors such as online shopping or gambling.

These drugs – including Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic and Wegovy, a weight loss drug from the same company – are known as GLP-1 (glucose-1-aminobutyric acid) agonists. They work by blocking a hormone called GLP that your body produces in your gut to suppress your appetite.

To CNBC, Le Biller said, 

“When I was on Ozempic, it made me not want that as much anymore, I could have a few sips of wine and just be satisfied and move on. I didn’t need multiple glasses a night, so it definitely seems to help with that.”
